The Camino was a life changing event for me. I sold my home in Texas and moved to Spain. I'm dedicated to the Camino for life. I want to serve the Camino anywhere I'm needed.

I have walked the Frances and Portugues Camino's multiple times. Overall I liked this movie. A couple of the pilgrims on it I found a bit tedious and got on my nerves. I won't say which one's, but I'm sure it's obvious. Also at times it seemed too scripted and melodramatic. I never found walking the Camino to be melodramatic at all and I have over 2500 miles of walking on it, lol. Anyway, my best advice to anyone after seeing the movie is go and walk it. It's wonderful.

I thought Sam was awesome! I have known many people who have suffered as she has and I have had my own brushes with depression. Sam like most of those who successfully live with this disease are fighters, they never give up and develop a richness of character that most people don't. This came through in the documentary I believe.. Keep on walking Sam!

I have walked the various Camino routes five times. To anyone contemplating walking it, use this poor woman's mistakes as a lesson on not what to do. Her pack is too large and too heavy. Is obvious just by looking at it. Don't carry a heavy pack. It should not weigh more than around 20 lbs, even during the colder months on the Camino. During the summer months? Ten pounds, tops and that's with water included. You really need to carry very few things when you walk the Camino. It's not austere, primitive, second or third world or even a real backpacking hike for that matter. Also, have some level of fitness before you start. You are going to be walking around 15-25 (9-15 miles) kms everyday. Trust me, you can't depend upon it to get you in shape if you can't walk it in the first place. She doesn't appear to me to have trained in advance. Lastly, if you just can't walk that far everyday with a pack, then have a transport service haul your pack ahead of you everyday, and if you have to, lower your daily distance. It's not a competition.

"A bad day for the ego is a good day for the soul." The Camino is where you have to let go of your psychology (and the normal programming our societies subject us to). People's bodies are different and your own body will find its natural pace and stamina. It is not a race or an extreme sport. It will bring you to a point where you fully inhabit your own body and experience. Its not about crossing the finishing line in a certain position among the pilgrims.
